Following the 1979 storming of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran , six embassy staff members manage to escape and find refuge at the home of Canadian Ambassador . Knowing the fugitives' discovery is imminent, CIA "exfiltration" specialist Tony Mendez devises an audacious plan: pose as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a fictional science-fiction epic titled Argo .
