The first season follows the tragic journey of a Thracian warrior (played by ) who is betrayed by Roman Legatus Claudius Glaber. Forced into slavery and separated from his wife, Sura, he is purchased by Quintus Lentulus Batiatus and sent to a gladiatorial training school ( ludus ) in Capua.
