: Using a multimeter, check the resistance (Ohms) of the heating element on the back of the mirror glass. A reading of "OL" (open link) or extremely high resistance confirms the glass needs replacement.

Set your multimeter to DC volts. With the engine running and the rear defroster (which usually activates the mirrors) turned on, check for battery voltage at the mirror's electrical connector. ford b166a60
