Funded via Kickstarter, Bloodstained promised a gothic Metroidvania for all major platforms. The Switch version, however, was outsourced to a different team (Engine Software) and used Unreal Engine 4, which struggled on Switch hardware. Digital Foundry’s analysis showed sub-30 FPS drops, input lag, and low dynamic resolution (often below 540p in handheld mode). This created a gap between the game’s artistic ambition—rich 2.5D visuals and particle effects—and the console’s limits.
