Universities are beginning to respond. Last fall, Stanford piloted a mandatory workshop titled “The Monolith Self: Reducing Fracture in the Algorithmic Age.” Attendance was low. Students said they were too busy switching personas to attend.
The story follows a female college student who lives a compartmentalized life. In one world, she is involved with a wealthy (conglomerate heir) who views her primarily as a "trophy" and maintains an aggressive, boundary-crossing physical relationship with her. In her other life, she attends cooking classes where she begins to flirt with her instructor, seeking a different kind of connection or excitement outside of her high-pressure relationship with the rich man.
